Subject: cheap shipping company, Mass to SF. Engine Rebuild Question too
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Hi, Can someone recommend a shipping company for a engine on pallet from Western Massachussets, residential, to somewhere near San Francisco (I can drive to anywhere within an hour)? I'm looking for a lowish cost shipper that can pick up an engine from a guys house and then drop it off either at my house or somewhere near.

In a separate issue, I'm dismantling my 1.9L for the first time in my life. I've got the the engine on the ground with the heads off.. Here are two pictures of the stage I'm at. http://communitybuilders.info/vanagon/march/0319-cylinders3-4.png http://communitybuilders.info/vanagon/march/0319-shortblock.jpg

I've got the pulley wheel off. However, the flywheel and the pistons and sleeves are still in. I plan to split the case. What should I do next? Should I take out the pistons and flywheel, or should I just split the case. This is kind of exciting for me, so if I need to take out the pistons, I will probably stop buy a hardware store on the way home and get the snap ring pliers, which it appears that I need. Also, do I need to buy a special tool to take the burr off the piston pin if there is a burr, or can I use some type of standard file?

Thanks. Wish me luck. :-)

Regards, Craig
