When you say 'backfiring when decelerating', is it backfiring through the intake, or the exhaust? Popping from the exhaust while decelerating in gear usually means you have an exhaust leak. It's normal for some unburned fuel to come out the exhaust in that situation, and if you have a leak enough fresh air will get in to let the hot gases in the exhaust ignite.
