Subject: 83 starter motor weak?
Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII

Hi, since I'm considering a Subaru engine conversion, I started reading the Kennedy engineering web site. There is a note that says that the 83-85 starter motors were weak.

Well, on my 83 watercooled westy, I have been having problems with the starter for about a year. I resolved most of the problems with a hard-start relay to get the juice more directory to the starter motor. However, it is still weak. If I ever get my van running again (assuming I don't go for the Subie transplant), what are my options for a more powerful starter. If I order from someplace like vanagain, bus depot or volkscafe, do I get a better starter than what I have in my van right now?

Are there other third-party options for more powerful starter motors?

Thanks.

Regards, Craig
