I use a giant filter from a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria.
It holds about a pint of fluid and has a check valve so it can't back
feed.
It cost about 8$.
I'm not saying this is a fix but if you're pumping trash it will collect
a lot before it stops up and it won't let it get back to your tank once
it has it captured.
