Hello, I replace the idle control unit on my '88 Vanagon and the result is that it runs fine for a while, then the idle will jump up to 2200rpm and refuse to return. Even turing the ignition off then on makes no difference. I did clean out the idle valve when I replaced the electronics. The o2 and temp II sensors were replaced a year ago. Can anyone give me a list of things I should check to track down this problem? If it is a help, my van does have the odd quirk that about 1-2 minutes after starting (~60 degree weather) it will experience about a 10-15 second period where it will appear to stall out when going from idle (full throttle gets it past this.) It only happens when starting from a cold engine, and only does it once. Other clues - while it passed its smog test, the emissions were higher than in previous biannual tests. yeah, all the classic Vanagon quirks - but no solution so far. thanks! Todd '88 Westy |
