Derrek, I have one of Boston Bobs Big Valve 2.1 engines. Installed
back in late October, it has just 4,500 km, so I cannot give an answer to
longevity. I am however pleased with the engine thus far. It has exhibited
low oil pressure as you mentioned. I switched to 20w50 oil soon after break
in after some consultation with Bob. The oil pressure has been normal since
then and yes I do have a "real" oil pressure gauge installed to monitor the
pressure. Yesterday, I got a call from Bob telling me he was sending me a
new oil pump, as he found a standard pump that seems to be giving his engines
better oil pressure and wanted me to have one to see how it works in my case.
I will not install it immediately but run my engine for a few more oil
changes and more extended highway speeds in warm temperature to see how the
original pump he put in there works out. Then if I feel the oil pressure is
still low I will change to the new style pump.
Cheers
