I've pulled down some Type IV engines with solid lifters. Other than the different push rods and lifters I see the same cam wear, dropped valve seats. I've seen both chrome molly and aluminum type push rods. Got a few sets of lifters and push rods. About the only thing I can definitely say I find out of the ordinary is chips in the valve stems and pitted adjusting screws from neglect of adjusting the solid lifters. (use valve stem caps) In effect the hydraulic became solid when it is properly adjusted and you have sufficient oil pressure. Whatever way you go you will get about the same mileage out of your engine as long as it is serviced properly.
