Some one posted a wonderful article about this some time ago... I cant remember exactly but I'll give it a try.

They used some math (geometry?). The length of the breaker bar was equal to the side of a triangle ???, and when you lift off the floor while applying pressure then you have achieved that specific torque.

Shoot, I am really at a loss for the specific way they did it. The above sounds ridiculous to me. Wish I would have saved that email.
