If your manual transmission begins to shift tight, resist going into gear or is hard to get into gears when it is cold, try replacing your rear engine mounts. Although the mounts might appear good they get soft from exhaust heat and wear out just like any mechanical part. Some of the gear shifting resistance can be adjusted out in the linkage. It is a two person job and although it takes only a few minutes its still critical. I spray paint my coupler and scribe a line on the existing position before I get into adjusting it. You know the old VW trick of marking my spot. In addition the selector rod and fingers / slots in the front of the case begin to wear and the shifting gets sloppy. This repair can be done with the transmission in the van ........... replace all the parts, they wear together.
