Mass produced parts can have machining faults. Your extra effort has paid off for you. I've never used any thing but new heads on new cylinders and I've trusted them to be correct. I'm assuming that they were but as I stated I always see some drip or cylinder head discoloration after about 10K on air cooled engines. If you ever get into a cylinder head rebuilders cores ........ take a good look at the Air Cooled heads coming in. I've simply never seen air cooled heads that didn't display some leaking after heavy use. I'd be interested in seeing if your lapping procedure for double precision would eliminate this.
