First off, don't drive it anymore until you can confirm what the actual problem is. IF it is a rod as you suspect, continued use could result in a rod being thrown through the block, ruining any cost recovery by way of saving a core charge. Blocks with holes in them and rods sticking out are useless for most anything except big boat anchors.

You might try pulling one plug wire at a time. The cylinder with a bad rod will change sound. Probably stop knocking altogether.

Contact Bob Donalds at Boston engine. He's a good guy and will be glad to tell you how to solidly identify this problem.
