Subject: Transmission Or Torque Converter Problems

I have a 1985 Westy automatic. I had problems with the differential part of the transmission. I picked up a unit from from a junk yard and now the diff part seems OK but the automatic part now is questionable. I have a second unit from the junk yard so there are several pieces to choose from. Neither unit from the junk yard had a torque converter. Is this something I should replace with a new one? The original torque converter went in and the trans shifts OK but there is an inappropriate noise. Both ATs from the junk yard had some small plastic bits in them, where could have these come from? I am not familiar with auto work, I do have several pieces to choose fromand will buy some components if that is necessary. But someone with a good bit of experience might have good advice and insights to offor.
