I have heard that a bad valve can cause the electronics to overheat and burn out.

I was having the van smogged and had the mechainc take a look at it. He verified that the individual components seem to be in spec. He did discover that one of the plug wires was intermittantly bad - but did not have a new set around. So the next step will be to replace the plug wires and see if that makes a difference. I'll also be checking all the vacuum hoses.

The mechanic did adjust the AFM mixture and throttle switch - and that alone made a noticable difference. Is there a concensus that having a crack or leak in the oil filler tube will cause problems as well?
