Hey Mike,

I just went through this on a Vanagon I worked on.
There are four wires for the dimmer.

Red/Yellow - primary juice
White/Black - juice from the light switch
Yellow - low beam
White - high beam

If you only have three wires, you are missing the
red-yellow, which is the key.
