and also what years the control arm on an '81 is compatible with. anyone
have any experience with this issue ?

80-84 Usyally have pressed steel lower conterol arms, late 84 and up have
cast arms with Girling ??? Brakes. The bushings are the same. You can
verify this by checking on parts at Bus Boys or Bus Depot websites. The
sway bar diameter can be one of two sizes that I can't remember.
I replaced all of the parts on mine in January 2001:
2 each upper ball joint #22( 251 407 361)
2 each lower ball joint #20 ( 251 407 187)
2 each strut rod bushings damping ring, rear # 16 (251 407 179)
2 each strut rod bushing damping ring, front #12 (251 407 175)
2 each sway bar inner bushings #3 22mm, .085 diam diameter ( 251 411 041
A)
2 each sway bar outer bushings #5 23mm (251 411 045 A)
2 each tie rod ends #7 ( 251 419 811)
4 each stabilizer link bushings, set for 2 ends #4 ( 411 513 121)
2 each front brake line ( 251.611.775a)
2 spacer, strut rod #9 ( 251.407.097)
2 Lower Control Arm Inner, Lower # 17( 251 407 183)
4 Upper Control Arm Bushings #4 (251 407 077)
A complete front end rebuild will be about $450.00 parts and labor.
