Bill,

Don't know if this will help, but years ago I had a F**D Mustang that had a similar problem. If memory serves me correctly I had to replace the turn signal mechanism. You might want to look at a wiring schematic to verify if the brake lights go through the turn signal at any point.

This question is not about a Vanagon. I am just trying to take advantage of the amazing quantity of expertise here on so many subjects.

Besides my '81 Westy, I have an '85 F**d Econoline. (I apologize in advance for mentioning it.)

The brake lights don't work. The turn signals and 4-way flashers work fine, and they are the same filaments in the same bulbs. I have checked with a meter, and power gets to the brake light switch. It also leaves the switch when the brake pedal is depressed, but the lights don't light.

If you have any ideas, please pmail me to avoid wasting even more precious Vanagon list bandwidth than I already have.

Thanks,

Bill in the Southwest
