Here is how I do it.
1) Adjust the valve lifters / rocker to 1 turn down from just touching.
This is to be sure everything is equal.
2) run the engine for about ten minutes, around the block works good.
3) Listen for noise from lifters.
4) Buy two new lifters and install them on #1, adjust them. Drive around
the block several times.
5) Wouldn't it be nice if this fixed it, if it isn't the fix return the
original lifters to #1 locations and put the new lifters in #2 and so on
until you get it quiet.
