Re carbs FYI: My van runs a single downdraft Solex 2 barrel progressive carb on my 2.1L 1991 Syncro Westy. I have run it from the Egyptian desert, to the Swiss alps, I have NEVER had any trouble with it. It is a Solex C34 TCIC model "Made in Italy". There is a rebuild kit available from "The Carburator Refactory" info@carbkits.com for about US$60. I have had experienced vanagon folks drive my van & say that they can not 'feel' it has a carb. It starts first time every time, idles perfectly, and runs smoothly through all ranges. I get about 19 mpg about the same as FI syncro westys.

Having more money than brains, I have just ordered a single downdraft Weber DFEV 32-36 progressive (from the Canadian branch of CIP1) and my mechanic will be trying to fit that to my van in a few weeks after which I will be driving from Nova Scotia to Michigan. I'll post a subjective review in May or June. Malcolm
