That chatter is a vibration. Every cycle in that vibration is an uneven strain or pressure on parts and seals. That stain or pressure continued long enough and frequent enough will cause parts failues. The long you wait, the more costly the repair. And it will probably take away any choice you may now have regards convenience. The part (parts) will inevitably fail when you are " starting down the long grade on Rattlesnake Mountain in the middle of the night in a pouring rain accompanied with moderate hail!!" Fix it now, so it can be handled as preventive maintenance.
