If the tank is looking empty a the end of the day and we are ready to camp then I wait until the next morning to fill up so we don't have to smell gas while we are camping (cooking, eating, sleeping etc). <snip> If you can smell gas after a fill up .... then it's time to drop the tank anyway. Again, I had the same problem. I dropped my tank and replaced all the hoses, fittings, and seals (got the kit from Ken at Vanagain). No more gas smell when tank is full.
