I use the exact same thing on Vanagons - an old input shaft from a Type1 swingaxle.

quick question - can you use a Type I/II (bug/bus) clutch pilot tool to align the clutch on the Vanagon? I need to put my engine back in, and a Type I clutch pilot tool (aka input shaft) is the easiest to get my hands on.
