Jack up front on level ground , put on jack stands. Remove tires.

I use two 22 mm sockets on 1/2" drive ratchets for to loosen the bottom shock bolt.

The top nut is 17 mm and you may need a 5 mm hex or a adjustable wrench to hold the rod from turning as you loosen the nut. Once all the bolts and nuts are off, the shock drops out from below.

You save the spacers , the rubber donut and dish washer to go back on the new shock in the order they came off the old.

Put the top nut on a few turns to hold the shock, then center the bottom shock bushing and install the bolt. Tighten all and make sure the top nut is snug.

Hi volks,

I'm about to replace the front shocks on my van and wanted to see if anyone had any early advice they'd like to share with me as I've never done it before. Do I need a torque wrench to do this job?

Peace, Marla '87 Westy GL Van "Morrison"
