Just about every gas guage in the VWs I've had is overly optimistic. My current 90 wants to have 1/4 tank for too long and then BAM! we're almost dry. I can get somewhere around 300 miles on a tank - sometimes more - so I track it like that.

Almost ran out the other day and put 16 gallons back in. Oops!
