Yesterday I installed a capacitor across the alternator terminals, using the same size I had installed in the AFM a few years ago (22microfarad, 25V electrolytic). I haven't installed a new ground yet, nor driven it, so can't say if any change is apparent. The idle still has the odd miss, so I doubt it has made any difference. Two questions: Bentley shows a nice stock condensor for the 90A alternator, but of course this is missing on mine. I'm worried the thin conductors on the capacitor will not stand up, so I'd rather get this condensor if I can find it. Any ideas where to get one? The two wire connector for the O2 sensor appears to have two "probe contacts" to allow for checking when the circuit is connected. I stuck my digital VM in these and registered a very low voltage at idle, engine cold. (something like 0.02V ). Does anyone have the correct range of values for the O2 sensor? Bentley suggests the only way to test is with a CO meter. Since my mileage is ok at about 12liters/100km, or 23 mpg imperial / 20mpg US, I suspect it is functioning somewhat. (mileage for mixed driving, highway should be better).
