John, The ones I got from vw looked like brass and were about 50 cents a piece. I bought a bakers dozen to get a free one as my vw man has a sense of humor and redwood city vw serves coffee and doughnuts at their parts place. I just asked them for some generic exhaust bolts which were made of the newer alloys. He had two styles of self locking nuts.
