The westy has ran *great* since I added a fat ground wire from alternator to body and put a noise suppression capacitor on the back of the alternator.

I've put 455 miles on her since then, most of it in 100+ mile chunks, with lights on and refrigerator running on 12 volts, and no sign whatsoever of any hesitation or misbehaving. That's the farthest it's ever gone since I've owned it without exhibiting the symptoms! The motor feels much better. It lost some minor hesitation and feels smoother all around.
