Subject: FS: Cheap Westy (Not Mine)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I met a fellow Westy owner at the Englishtown, NJ VW swap meet last Sunday. The owner had 3 Westys, with one of them being for sale for only $1500. Here are my impressions/ details as I saw them: -Air cooled, 1980 model, full camper, I think the color was metallic orange -The exterior had quite a bit of surface rust and some of the usual dents and dings on the body and bumpers. -There were a few exterior things missing as far as I could tell: 2 of the 3 side inlets, one of the side rear plastic inlet grills and bumper end-caps, maybe a few other things. -The interior seemed complete as far as I could tell, but was rather dirty, however it was nothing that a good cleaning and laundering of the upholstery couldn't handle. The owner said all of the camper stuff was in working order. -Owner said the engine was rebuilt 12,000 miles ago and the van overall has been rock solid and the least problematic of his other ones. I only heard it running when he pulled up to the event, and it did sound smooth and was actually quieter than my wbx westy. Owner commented that he's putting all his energy into the Syncro he acquired and needed to make room. -Located in Brooklyn, NY -The bottom line. If I had the space and resources I would jump on it. I actually was considering it for the last few days and that's why I'm posting this 4 days later. I think it would be great deal for someone trying to get into the Westy scene very cheaply and still be able to drive it while addressing the things it needs (that is, assuming that the mechanicals and frame integrity check out before purchase). if anyone is seriously interested, p-mail me for the owner's phone #.

Vince
