I was just reading the Vanagon information on Crashtest.com, a website about auto safety and (you guessed it) crashtest results.

<A HREF="http://www.crashtest.com/volkswagen/ie.htm">http://www.crashtest.com/volkswagen/ie.htm</A> (beware the numerous pop-ups)

I noticed that they give the Vanagon a 'poor' rating in frontal impact, and an overall 'poor' rating, yet the Swedish Folksam Report, which is based on real-life accident reports, gives it an 'excellent' rating.

Conclusion: If you have to run head-on into anything, choose another car instead of a concrete berm. (I must state here that the National Safety Council advocates NOT hitting another car if at all possible -- they prefer side-swipes if you have enough control)
