I live in northern Maine.  I had the same problems with temperatures
below 20 degrees fahrenheit (20/50 motor oil).  My fix was to change oil
to 5/40 and put in platinum plus 4 spark plugs.  After that, even when
it was MINUS 20 F, it started everytime on the first try.
