Thanks to all who helped with info on the pod rebuild. Rennie at Peyton Cramer VW in Torrance, CA is hooking me up with some parts and is a great help always.

I went to a pick and pull lot today to get a few do dads for the cluster that are not available. The lot had only one Vanagon--about an 82. The instrument pod was dismatled with parts of it still in the passenger compartment. But the speedo was gone and I needed the speedo backing plate that cannot be ordered from VW.

And then I found the speedo backing plate on the floor left behind by someone. This backing plate is metal and sure looks to be for the Vanagon speedo. My backing plate, and all those I have seen, are plastic and cracked. I'll see tomorrow if the metal plate is an actual fit. It stamped with the VW logo and seems to have all the correct holes for screws and guide pins.

Maybe my luck is changing.

Thanks Jeff 83.5 Westy LA,CA
