carryover from the splitty deluxes.  theyre mainly just decorative but
supposed to protect the glass..(like i said theyre mainly docorative)  :<)
look cool tho..give your van a retro look.. :<)  dont have anything to do w/
defroster wires (since they first started putting these on '51 deluxe micros,
which had no rear defroster (or heat for that matter) but i suppose it would
help protect the wires on the newer vanagon..
