I just replaced the tranny in my 90 w/ a used one and the whole process took several long days and some serious cussing (first time). My biggest problem is I'm 6'2" and the Carat I have sits a few inches lower than other vans. Even w/ it up on timbers I could barely get under. Next time it'll be easier and I'll put another 4" of timbers underneath it. Before you do this, look for comments in the archives - esp from Stan. Oh, while your in there you should think about the clutch/pilotbearing/main seal. Actually, getting the main seal and pilot bearing out took the most time, but I won't ever have to do it again. One more thought -- with used trannys you pay your $ and take your chances. A friend pulled one from a wrecking yard and it it like new. the one we installed whines in 2nd and I'm thinking I'll be back under there at some point in the future w/ another one. john 90 Carat |
