Shawn,
You making too much of nothing here. Buy the
sensor and seal from busdepot. Might want to order a
case of oil filters to make it worth the work of the
order. Remove the old sensor and seal and replace it
with the new sensor and seal. The new sensor and
seal may not seal right so make sure to double check
after your work. Sometimes a different seal is
required to do the job. Appears to be a problem with
quality control on the tanks. It is a good idea to
point the van downhill but it is little more work than
replacing the cap. Oh yes replace the cap too if
over five years old and keep the old as a spare.

At least 12 months is better than 12 hours!
Did you pick up a Bentley Book by any chance? At
least then you can
set out on the
road, knowing that if anything goes you've got proper
documentation to
fix it.
