NY state has a lame (or good, depending on your perspective) emissions inspection. It doesn't include any exhaust analysis / sniffing, rather just a visual inspection that the original emissions system is still installed (you CA types gotta love that). This was only implemented maybe 3 years ago, and doesn't seem to be taken very seriously -- it's not like they're checking mileage of your O2 sensor. I would think they'd notice something like the catalytic convertor being removed though ... Alan Cote '86 Westy (begrudgingly a NY state resident. both of us)
