Subject: Strange oil leak @ starter mount?
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Tonight I noticed another in a series of strange and not-so-good things while crawling under our '88 Westy (funny how you rarely notice *good* things this way...), anyway - I saw oil drips on the lower starter mounting bolt.

The van developed a *very* slow oil leak about the time I put in Amsoil gear and engine oil two years ago. Prior to this it did not leak a drop in 5 years, but since the leak was very slow, and I assumed was engine oil, not gear oil, I ignored it. The leak was from the engine/bellhousing area, dripping onto the exhaust header clamp plate, so it could be engine or trans I guess.

But now the oil drip on the starter bolt has me wondering - how could oil leak up that high, and if it did, it must be the transmission, right? Very strange. Has anyone seen this before?
