The US and State Gov'ts have lost sight of what they are doing. Regulations
were originally implemented to clean up the air. Unfortunately, now it's
simply a source of revenue for the gov't; the main reason it's there is to
test cars, NOT TO CLEAN UP THE AIR.

If they wanted clean air, they'd have legislation that

1) didn't care about what "changes" were present on a car compared to what
it was originally equipped with, since they "would" only be concerned with
what came out of the tailpipe.

2) regulated the tonnage of pollutents, not their ratios. A 3 ton behomoth
Expedition that gets 8mpg is "cleaner" then a 45mpg Tercel? This is why
putting an "air pump" on an engine to pump fresh air into the exhaust system
(which dilutes the pollutants with "clean" stuff, bringing the ratios down)
is/was a common and legal method of making a car "cleaner". Adding a 2hp
pump which requires more power to drive it, to pump air into the exhaust?
Gimme' a break.

The gov't is addicted to $, and it's out of control. This is present in
other places too, which is why the IRS exists now too (don't get me started
on double and triple taxation, this is common, and only shows the govt
addiction to leaching off of the public).

It's disgusting.

On topic: you can "fool" the sniffer test by filling up with alcohol, 50/50
with gas will significantly lower your HC outputs, but it will run like
shite. :-) it is best to try to get that sucker clean running though.
