Subject: Latest on coolant sensor, vanagon syndrome
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

I installed the patched up coolant level sensor this morning, which went fine. I have not run the van up to operating temperature yet, nearly all the coolant went back in, so I'm hoping very little air has entered the system. I'll let the wife drive the kids to school, and then try bleeding it at the rad.

I did notice that I seem to have developed a fast cold idle, which has never happened before. From dead cold, it is steady at around 1600rpm, even after blipping the throttle. I tried unplugging the idle stabilizer connection, and it stalled instantly. I plugged it back in, restarted, and the van appeared to be flooded. I had to give it WOT for a second to get it to start, after which it idled smoothly around 900rpm... I'm not sure what this means - perhaps my attempts at curing Vanagon Syndrome are simply chasing it to other components... ;-)
