if it's a myth, then why is it a myth on volvo and saab and other cars that use VDO speedos? my odometer broke on my 86 bus in less than 12,000 miles. and i'd be justa pushing that reset button as i drove off from the gas pump. my sister's dasher wagon broke its odo in less than 5000 miles. her volvo 245 station wagon lasted all of 8000 miles, way back when.

maybe they've gotten better. maybe it was only the pre-19xx models. but it has happened to my fambly. so i don't do it anymore. and i advise folks to not do it with any car that has a VDO speedo unit.
