I had this problem and replaced the valve. Later I learned that you can just replace the packing OR... just tighten the nut on the packing (underneath the valve handle at the base there should be a nut... tighten it a quarter turn to see if that helps).

Other then of course using a lighter how does one go about telling if they have a propane leak. Generally when I fill the tank and have the fridge going I can smell propane outside on the drivers side. Thanks in advance.
