How about when you factor in truck shipping a couple times? If it ain't right the first time, your shipping charges will eat up any savings right quick. Were I on the right coast, Bob Donalds would be choice one. Were I on the bottom coast, there's John Connally in the south that has a good reputation. Being on the left coast, I have two choices. AVP (a ways away) and NW Connecting Rod (less a ways away). The local (kinda) VW Authorized Repair Facility uses NWCR motors.

Spend the money. Go see Bob. He has a sterling reputation. (People from my general area (PNW) even buy from him.) The tech support is unmatched. That, IMHO, is worth *any* price premium.
