Subject: Radiator Fan R&R

I swapped out the radiator fan on my camper this weekend. The original unit had started making more noise than usual on low speed. Last time it happened, a couple of years ago, I pulled and disassembled the motor and re-lubricated the bearings, they were bone dry. This time I went and purchased the new unit from www.busdepot.com for $129.95.

The original fan motor had a 'AA' suffix on the part number, BusDepot's part number was 251 959 455M. The difference must be the fan itself, the blades on the new fan were almost 2" longer than the original fan, so I had to re-install the original fan on the new motor. The motors themselves appeared to be identical externally.

I'll post some photos soon of the old/new fan motor assemblies and the extension that I had to make for my hydraulic jack to lower the radiator while the front of the van was up on ramps. I didn't have to disconnect any hoses and only had to lower the radiator about 1 foot to access the center and lower fan shroud bolts. You can access the top bolts through the grill opening after you lower the radiator assembly about 4".

Thanks,
