Hello Volks: Went and got our 86 Westy out of storage this morning. Started up great on the second turn of the key. I let it idle for 10 minutes, everything checked out fine. I drove off towards home down the highway at a moderate 50 mph for the 40 mile trip. As I approached the end of the highway and eased off the gas, the van didn't de-accelerate. With a little investigation on the roadside I noted that in neutral the van is now idling at 4000 rpm and in drive the engine runs no less than 2000 rpm. So, on the remainder of the drive home, I noticed the engine two or three times dropped back to a proper idle but only for a second each time. There was no build up or warning signs for this problem. So, what's the diagnosis? Has the Vanagon Syndrome tackled me on the first drive of the season? Dan DJ Landry Bedford, Nova Scotia 86 Westy (48000 original miles) |
