In a casual conversation with Ken at Vanagain I realized that the alternator mount welded to the left head coolant tube was horribly wrong. I know the PO he was a nice guy that was dependent upon his mechanic. It is amazing that the guy welded onto the thin coolant pipe. Even more amazing is that I have been rolling across the US and Mexico oblivious to what danger was lurking there. Ken was nice enough to sell me a used tube and mount bracket in addition to some other parts and kits I bought from him. My question - Should I expect to be able to tap out the broken studs where the bracket attaches to the block? Is this in the realm of a moderate hack like me or should I save this for some experienced help? Thanks, Owen |
