According to my parts computer that part number crosses over to 00061ME coil
which is supposed to work on 83-92 Vanagons.  So I guess the answer is yes
it is the right coil (although a cheaper version than the OE Bosch one).

I am dubious of the coil I received today for my 86 Transporter. It is
bright red and reads "use only with ballast". the number on the box is
9224 771 000. Can anyone confirm or deny?
