If you are running an 009 there is no way you have proper advance........My guess is that someone timed it for full advance and then at idle the advance is high...........so instead of starting at 7.5 btdc, probably more like 20btdc, then advancing to 38 to 42 at 3500 rpms or so...................

t will work, but it is doing you harm on the low end in the long run...................

It also sounds as if those other busses you have had or driven were not tuned right........no stock motor with carbs will run better than one with FI............FI is no hassle at all if you know what you are doing, and not guessing.
