Tight? How tight? Years ago when I drove a VW Super Beetle, I had some mechanics (!) tighten the axle nut down to 250pounds. Except...it was supposed to be tighted to only 120. The bearing siezed at 65mph...good thing I had steel belted tires. I burned the tired down to the steel belting.

Over tightening is as bad as too little.
