I have a similar (possibly related?) problem with my left side outer CV joint. History: It was working fine until a few years ago when I replaced it just as a preventative measure. Since then, the outer CV on the driver's side will periodically start making noise. When I check it, it is DRY of grease. I repack it very full and bolt it back. 3000 to 5000 miles later, it is dry. I have no idea where the grease goes. The boot is fine. I have replaced it and the boot -- no help. I had a pro (Chirco's in Tucson) replace it and the boot -- no help. I am thinking of just getting a big syringe and needle and shooting some grease through the boot every 1000 miles or so.
