Subject: Re: anyone refill a vanagon charcoal cannister?

Adam, How do you know your charcoal cannister is clogged? Do you have a vacuum in the fuel tank? I have a slight vacuum in my '90 westy's fuel tank. When I take off the gas cap, there is a hissing sound. I have wondered myself if I need a new charcoal cannister. Drilling a hole, removing the charcoal, replacing it, and closing it with a pipe plug sounds like a good idea to me. ABS plastic cap and glueing might work also. I guess you could buy a cheaper cannister at a flaps, and remove the charcoal out of that one, and refill your original one. Any better source for charcoal? The earlier "bus" ones are easy.they pry apart, but these cylindrical ones are molded shut..............I was doing to drill for a pipe plug, drain it out and refill, but wanted to be sure there was nothing else i needed to consider first.
