Hi folks, I have a friend with an 85 vanagon and he is suffering occasional hesitation, and occasional stalling followed by refusal to restart, leaving him stranded more times than is fair. The fuel system was checked out by some well qualified mechanics, and they want a lot of money to do the "look for intermittent problems" checkout, as you might expect. I never paid much mind to the capacitor fix that is always being bandied about here, so I don't know if it relates or not, but I know its a cheap, easy thing to do. I searched the archives, and forgive me, but sometimes too much info is a bad thing :) as there is a ton, and nothing specific as I tried to check every post. Sooo, could the cap fix, in a hundred to one shot, give him any relief for the symptoms? He won't put any more money into the van, and so I am starting with the inexpensive stuff first. Using the archives to search for hesitation returns a ton, and I don't even know what would be a good keyword for the stalling, or the cutout problem that will narrow it to a usable amount of posts :-) Anyway, its late at night and I am hoping I can offer him a few suggestions that would be easy to try. Much obliged for any input. Thanks,
