I have seen this thread go on too long. There are no technical differences (only superstition) between the generic Bosch 3 wire part and the 3 wire unit with the specific VW connector. There can be significant differences in the quality of contacts made when splicing the generic unit to the VW connector. The wires have a different alloy composition than the traditional copper or tinned copper wiring used in the harness, or for hobbyist electronics. This is a high temperature alloy, chosen to minimize embrittlement at the high temperatures seen in the exhaust circuit. There are several other ways to damage this system all of which I have addressed in the archives long ago. I also offered a suggestion as to how to make an adapter to splice between the VW harness and the Ford Mustang connector on the generic Bosch unit.
